Slob Shipyard, Duurzaamheidsfabriek and Systems Navigator partner to develop a Digital Twin

Slob Shipyard, the Duurzaamheidsfabriek and Systems Navigator are proud to announce their partnership to develop a Digital Twin for the Slob Shipyard. This Digital Twin of the yard process will allow Slob to analyze and quantify the effects of current and future process improvements. It will also enable Slob to debottleneck the manufacturing process from the receipt of steel until the hull gets painted and leaves the yard. Overal l, the Digital Twin will allow Slob to analyze how a production plan will develop based on the most recent actual data. It will also assist Slob in dealing with the continuous plan changes that characterize Slob’s process.

According to Scheepswerf Slob: “ In our business we often rely on gut feeling when we make planning decisions”. We would like to have the capability to reliably predict and quantify the effect of changes in the plan. It is of key importance to be able to deal with the c hanges in the plan, since that is what sets apart Slob from its competition. “I believe a Digital Twin of our Yard will help us to maintain our flexibility whilst reducing costs and throughput time” stated Arjen Dekker, Scheepswerf Slob Managing Director.

On Systems Navigator side: “We are delighted to be working with the world leader in building steel hulls and complex integrated deckhouses and to develop a state-of-the-art Digital Twin of the whole yard process” states Vincent de Gast, Systems Navigator Director. This project is perfectly aligned with our strategy to developing Digital Twins of integrated systems. A Digital Twin is typically created of a single machine in a factory instead of an integrated process. Systems Navigator aims to become the world leader in developing integrated Digital Twins.

“As Innovation Manager for the Sustainability Factory, I am proud that I paved the way to a great partnership between two outstanding companies in their own respective markets.” states Daniel Wortel. The Sustainability Factory guides this project and has an advisory role, allowing the project to benefit from the Digital Twin and process knowledge. Through its position within the regional Fieldlab Network SMITZH, the Sustainability Factory has also been able to attract additional funding, enabling the partners to create the space within their businesses to pioneer with this innovative project.
